Chino Lopez (Jaide English-Fisher) was a mini villain in the movie and screenplay. He was a member of the Sharks, at one point Maria's love-interest, and the one who kills Tony.
Chino was born in the city of San Juan, April 9th 1939 making him 17 by the time of the show happened. Chino was a small child for his age. He was constantly bullied and gave up on. He was a follower not a leader. He would later show everyone who he was by the end of his run. He and his family were pretty poor but where he found his best was with his buddy Bernardo.
Chino and Bernardo were always getting into trouble. He is great friend with the Moreno's (Bernardo and Anita's family) and they would often feast together as well as Maria and her family. In the year 1953 when he and Bernardo were 14 and 15 respectively, they started a gang named "The Sharks" some people who were apart of their village in San Juan started to join and they were a tight-knit posy. Chino and his friends eventually started "jobs" which ended up in a lot of drug trade so they could make their way to America in search of freedom. Once they were able to afford their way there they moved directly there with a boat trip to Brooklyn, New York.
Bernardo, Chino, Anita, Maria, Pepe and Indio as well as a few others rented out 3 apartments in the Everett Motel. On his first day moving in, rival gang the Jet's jumped Chino with A-Rab landing heavy blows to him. The next day, Bernardo beat up A-Rab for him and created a narrative that they were to not be messed with.
Chino and Bernardo were people that everyone talked about and it boosted his ego. He had a perfect life. A family. A girlfriend in Maria. And Freedom. One night they ordered a war council that Chino participated in deciding on many things with other gang members. During the fight which was a 1v1, Bernardo lost his life and Chino didn't know what to do. That was until he heard about Tony and Maria.
Chino then takes control of the Sharks and then wants revenge on Tony so he shoots him in cold blood. After the incident, Lt. Schrank takes Chino to juvenile detention and then prison where he serves 13 years in prison for killing Tony. After getting out in 1969, he moves back to Puerto Rico and starts a family with another girl named Rita. They fell in love and had 2 children, Juan and Luis. He lived a stressed life always trying to hide behind his status as a criminal. Chino passed away November 19th 1993 at 54 years old to lung cancer due to smoking problems.
